広島会について
古本会長
It is an honor to be part of Hiroshima-Kai of New York. It is an honor because Hiroshima is synonymous with “World Peace”. I had spent my childhood life in Hiroshima, just three months after the bombing–our family was lucky because we had just come back from the United States (we were locked up in Tule Lake Concentration Camp in California for 4 years and were just released). I had not experienced what “Hibakusha” (victim of atomic bomb) experienced but I had seen with my own eyes what war can do to people’s lives as I later volunteered in the United States Army in 1968 and fought in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971.
The Hiroshima-Kai was started in 1987 in New York and I was one of the founding members. In 1994, Reverend Nakagaki of New York Buddhist Church started the “Memorial Service” for the victims of atomic bomb in Hiroshima on eve of August 5th (August 6th in Hiroshima, Japan). Hiroshima-Kai has participated in this event since the inception by reading the “Peace Message” from Mayor of Hiroshima every year. We at Hiroshima-Kai hope that this grass roots efforts and our prayers can be heard, so we can propagate peace throughout the world–however small this gathering may be (about 300 to 400 people participate in this event every year by candlelight vigil and silent march from the New York Buddhist Church to Riverside Church in Harlem).
We hope Hiroshima-Kai of New York can make a difference in this world.

ニューヨーク広島会は、ニューヨークとその近郊に暮らす広島県出身者とその家族、ならびに広島県にゆかりのある人たちの集まりです。広島を愛する人たちの親睦を深め、相互扶助を推進することを目的に、1987年10月に発足しました。現在は広島県出身者、あるいは広島県に拠点を置く企業や組織のニューヨーク地区での活動のサポートなど、広島県とニューヨークの架け橋となれるよう活動の幅も広げています。

会員数 ： 約１００名
組織 ： 会長 古本隆、副会長 佐藤誠司、事務局（複数名）。
ニューヨーク広島会は、在米数十年の長期滞在者や永住者をはじめ、学生、駐在員など数年の短期滞在者、日米を往復して暮らす人たちなどから成り立っています。会社経営者、会社員、ミュージシャン、アーティストなど、会員の職業や渡米目的、年齢も様々です。ご夫婦、ご家族での参加も多く、和気あいあいとした雰囲気です。

１月 ： 新年会、総会
３月 ： ボーリング大会
６月 ： 中国５県親睦ゴルフコンペ
８月 ： Hiroshima/Nagasaki Memorial Festival
９月 ： 納涼祭（９１１関連）
上記の他にも、夏のバーベキュー、女性中心のお茶の会など、様々なイベントを企画しています。また、「広島会として、こんなことをやりたい！」というアイデアも、随時受け付けています。
